Common Ground’s mission is to provide mahjong events to people of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. We intend to build and invest in diverse communities that can gather in solidarity beyond the table and advocate for social, economic, and environmental justice.

Common Ground was established in October 2025 by Jay, a queer Chinese activist based in San Gabriel Valley.

Common Ground began as one of Jay’s spontaneous ideas to play mahjong with some friends in a parking lot. What once seemed like a mere pipe dream has now evolved into a means to build and invest in local communities through the beloved game of mahjong.
