Common Ground (共同點)

Mahjong (麻将) has always been about connection and community. Common Ground is free, inclusive, and open to people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. We mostly play Taiwanese (16 tiles) and Hong Kong style (13 tiles) here, but feel free to bring your own table, set, and house rules to the space. We offer mahjong lessons depending on teacher availability. 

All of Common Ground’s events are open play and free to attend with a pay what you can model primarily on behalf of Matilija Collective, a community lending library and creative space centering BIPOC stories and power in the San Gabriel Valley. We’re building community together tile by tile, and Common Ground is a means to highlight QTBIPOC voices and fundraise for mutual aid organizations. Vendors and venues are specifically asked to contribute toward Common Ground’s fundraising efforts or local community organizations. Ticketed events will be determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the partnership, especially as Common Ground continues to grow.
